Do Something Social Boot Camp & Awards

July 17th - Do Something Social Bootcamp
Compared to this year, I think I learned more from last year. Nonetheless it was a great and beneficial experience. Going to four sessions I learned how to turn my ideas into action. I also saw Angela from SAT so it was a reunion. Esther and Ron fell asleep in the political activism workshop -_-;; but I understand because it was a long, draining day. After the Do Something Social Boot Camp we went to a Westfield mall because no one could pick us up. We went to the food court but did not buy anything because everything was so expensive (well duh, it's Los Angeles Avenue of the Stars). So we stayed in a book store the whole time...I also fell asleep while reading a book. Felt like forever to get a ride home but my mom finally ended work and picked us up. We started the day at 9:00 a.m. in Los Angeles and went home around 10:00 p.m. We spent almost 13 hours in L.A. but I think it was worth it.

July 19th - Do Something Awards aired on VH1
The day started normally. I went to the OC Register until 2 pm when my mom picked me up. Ron, Jo, and Ysabel were all waiting at my house while my mom and I had to pick up Esther. We drove to the Metro station and bought our tickets. Its been forever since I've ridden the metro. I used to ride it almost everyday last summer, which was why I was really lost and confused when we finally got on board. I sort of panicked when I forgot the names of the stops. But luckily I was not alone and was with four friends :) Felt like forever to get there; three stops; an hour and a half. When we finally got there we were excited to get our tickets at the Hollywood Palladium. It was scorching hot but we stayed in line till 4:30 when they finally opened the doors. Somehow Jo managed to sneak Jared (my camera) in but Ysabel & Esther got caught so they had to hold it. We found out we had to stand the whole time...and our view was on top. Even though my feet ached the whole time I still got to see Megan Fox, Snoop Dogg, Joe Jonas, and Demi Lovato. The performers included Bruno, Lifehouse, and Natasha Bedingfield. After the show we walked to Dennys and ate. The day was so tiring and finally Ysabel's parents picked us up. The awards show wasn't as fun as last year's Do Something Power of Youth Party but it was still a good experience!

The time I didn't write in my blog

I can't really summarize everything I did throughout the past month but I will try to make it short. :) So I don't remember the dates but from the pictures I remember I walked with Christine to Chan's apartment at Casa Grande. It was really good to finally see Christine cause I've missed her for a while. And for Chan...I haven't seen him in forever. After I hung out with them, on the same day, I went to hang out with Dylan, Richard, Jo, Deanna and Carol. We went to Costco to eat and then chilled at a park.

So for fourth of July, I hung out mostly with Deanna and Jo. We went to Ron Chung's house and did some karaoke. Afterwards we tried going to downtown disney to see fireworks but it ended before we got there. So we decided to go back to Ron Chung's neighborhood because nearby there was a fourth of July party with loud music and small fireworks.

On a different day I met up with Ysabel, Ron, and Jo. There was something wrong with Jo's car so he tried fixing it but ended up hitting his knee on his light and it cracked. Afterwards Ron and Ysabel came to make shirts for ASB camp! We bought supplies from tshirt city and Joannes. We didn't finish because Ysabel left early. Later that day Brian Chun, Jo, Carol and Deanna met up together and we went to the Lighthouse at the PIKE! It was sooooo pretty and the sky was really red for some odd reason. I am definitely going back before summer ends!

I guess sometime in July I went to Lee's sandwiches with Kevin Hiura, Kevin Fujikake, Deanna, Carol, and Jo. I think there were more people but I can't remember. Lee's is my OBSESSION. I really like eating there now. Then after Lee's we went to Dolphin Bay for a little bit then went home.

The morning before I left for camp I met up with Ron and Jo at starbucks. I bought Jo coffee because I owed him it but I don't remember why. We were all just talking and basically chillin. After that Ron dropped me off at home. I packed for camp and my mom finally took me there.

Camp was an interesting and beneficial experience. I learned how to community organize and take direct action. I met amazing passionate people that were thriving to create change in their own communities. They were mostly college kids who have already achieved so much. I will take what I learned and definitely apply it to my club project this year. And also we attended and participated in a picketing. Really awesome experience. It was held at Artesia, never knew so many issues about worker's rights were occurring in a community so close to Cypress.

I came back from camp on a Sunday (it was based in Los Angeles) and Jo was gracious enough to pick me up, though I owe him food! That night we went to eat korean bbq...but I didn't eat. David Park's friend who worked there thought I looked pitiful because I didn't want to eat and just kept watching people.

A few days later after I came back I hung out with the same group of people and went to Mochilatto. After Mochilatto we had a crazy game time right in front of Mochilatto. We played the question game, mafia, viking and boom chicka boom boom =) We also had a group photoshoot. After Mochilatto we stopped by Dolphin Bay because I was really hungry.

Lastly, I went to a bonfire that was planned by Jo I think. I got a ride from Kevin Hiura and Helen was with me. When we got there, there were only boys. Luckily there was good food and a good cook (Dylan Hunt). And also more girls came like Deanna, Carol, and Brittney & her school friends. I really loved the sky that day. On one side it was purple, another side was blue, another was red, and the clouds had gold lining (as shown in the picture).

So far July has been an amazing experience and filled with a lot of fun. However, I think I should start studying and taking my internship more seriously. I have been slacking off and even got in a lot of trouble by my mom. I'm really going to try to focus on my summer homework, SAT's, and hopefully finish my college application draft by August 1st. I'm so excited for August to come because of Korea and ASB camp! Oh yeah, I really need to blog more often. The next time I'll blog will be tomorrow after the Do Something Awards.

June 30 - Eclipse/July 1st - Random Bonfire & Spontaneous hangout

June 30th-Eclipse with some dudes, In-N-Out
No pictures taken. Really excited to watch Eclipse so Helen, Shawn, Jo, and I decided to go to Buena Park Mall to watch the movie. We chose the 7:00 pm movie premiere and there was no long line :) During the whole movie, Helen and I kept making funny comments to each other. At one point I swear I heard Shawn say " I wish I was a werewolf."
The best parts of the movie were
seeing an ASIAN vampire on a blood rage & random shots of the flowery meadow area that Bella and Edward kept lying on. Yeah, Eclipse was THAT much better than the last two movies in the Twilight saga. After Eclipse we went to In-N-Out where the guys kept throwing french fries at me. Oh and the next day Shawn was the only person who got food poisoning from eating In-N-Out.
After eating, we visited Deanna where we had a strange talk. Once again Jo was the only guy there since Shawn dipped out early.

July 1st - Random Bonfire & Spontaneity
THE BEACH!! again =) but with random Western people. Helen drove Deanna and I to Huntington. The rest of the people that we knew got there like an hour before us. Basically...they left pretty fast when we got there. Pretty much dipped out on us but at least Deanna, Helen, and I got to mingle with some Western ASBers. Because we did not know anyone we didn't stay long and headed to Cypress. I didn't eat dinner or anything so Helen & I purchased some Subway but decided to eat it at Albertaco's outside tables since Subway was closing around Ten. There we saw random graduated Cypress students like Kevin Hiura, Matt Yun, Grace Choo, and Ellen Park. We started talking to them and they invited us to play football or something. We ate our sandwiches first and then met them up at Michael Condy's house at Sorrento. There was a group of people that I can't name because I dont know them... but they also graduated from Cypress. Matt Yun, Ellen Park, Grace Choo, and Kevin Fujikake suggested to go to the beach so Deanna and I were down to go at 1 a.m. Helen, unfortuantely, had to go home because of curfew.
So we decided to spontaneously go to NEWPORT BEACH =) We headed to Balboa or also known was "The Wedge". When we got there, there was a cop that said the beach was closed..except, sneaky us, walked around the cop and eventually reached the shore.
THE BEACH AT NIGHT IS SO SCARY. I thought someone was going to jump out and kill us. Basically it was all dark and it seemed like all a bunch of nothingness. There was a dark figure on the sand and everyone started freaking out...ended up being a couple making out on the sand. Then after we stopped by this little plot of land that Matt called a "park". Talked there for a few minutes. Since it was around 1:30 am we decided to head home!

Funny thought: I never had a decent conversation with any of them at school ,except Deanna, but we ended up hanging out & at the weirdest hour... overall most spontaneous summer day !
